Game Day Sea Fare.. always a Winner!!

Looks like a great SoCal weekend is quickly approaching. Temps will be warming and and if forecasts are correct, we could see 80 degrees when the big game kicks off on Sunday! That’s a perfect combination for for a great time down here at Quality Seafood and for those headed to a family or friends gathering to watch the game. We know some of you out there might be looking for inspiration on what to bring or what to put out for the game, so we are here to help.

First, are you hosting, or are you headed out to a gathering? If you are hosting then you know how involved you want your prep to be and how much food you’ll need to put out. If you’re not hosting, then you’ll likely want to bring something tasty that won’t involve too much prep, but isn’t necessarily the same ol’ stuff everyone else is bringing. Or Maybe? Maybe it’s time for a creative culinary showdown between your “Clams Newton” (see recipe below) and “Mahi Manning” Fish Tacos? Hmmmm….Either way, we have got you covered.

Our own fish master Seiji will be whipping up a big batch of Ahi poke. Eat it here, or take it to a party. Also along that line we have Fish Ceviche, Shrimp Ceviche, Mexican shrimp cocktail, and shrimp aguas chiles, all of which can be packed up and taken to go. We’ll have plenty of our famous clam chowder and our new warm Dungeness Crab dip too.  Fresh or cooked crab, steamed shrimp, and Sashimi grade tuna are all great starts and can be done as simply or elaborately as you like. Whatever your inspiration, we can help kick start this beautiful weekend to come and “cover the spread” at your Big Game gathering.

Clams Newton

  • 1 12oz bottle of pale lager (any German or Mexican lager will work)
  • 5 lbs of clams (Littleneck, Manila, Cockle or a mix of all three)
  • Lemon halves (for serving)
Bring beer to a boil in a large heavy pot. Add clams. Cover Pot. Reduce heat to medium and steam clams until they open (6-8 minutes). Using a slotted spoon, transfer clams to a large bowl or platter (discard any that do not open). Serve with Lemon
Wanna Kick it up a notch? Add 1/2 lb of Chorizo or spicy Italian sausage and a 1/4 cup of cilantro to the boil before adding clams. Allow meat to boil for 2 minutes before adding clams. Then add clams and continue with instructions above.
